We have an exciting week ahead. Today, students did a great job during workshop. Many finished their Tangram Adventure and started writing the 1st draft of their president report. We are focusing on writing information in our own words not copying the source. This research project will take some time but is well worth it. Students continue to work on the STEMscopes unit - Mapping Our World and Forms of Water. This afternoon, they worked in small groups to complete a claims and evidence activity. It was great to see students look at the maps and discuss which map matched the description. They also needed to write evidence for the answer. Nice teamwork 1st and 2nd grade!
Tomorrow we have ArtSmart and on Friday, 1/2 will lead Mass. After Mass, students get to participate in Shamfest. (2:00 - 2:30 for our class)
*March 16th, K-2 will see the play Click, Clack, Moo in Salem

Congratulations 1st and 2nd graders on earning your second marble jar party! Today, we watched Horton Hears a Who! and ate popcorn. Let's see if you can earn a 3rd marble jar party, this year.
Parents - Thank you for participating in the Read to Feed service project that we are doing for Lent. I have not seen so many AR tests taken in 3 days. From Wednesday, February 26th to Friday, February 28th our class passed 60 AR tests, Wow! Congratulations Sofia for reading and passing AR tests on 9 books for those days. Most students passed 3 AR tests. Keep reading 1st and 2nd graders! Your enthusiasm is awesome!
*Special request for supplies if you would like to donate. We are in need of 1 gallon zip lock bags, baby wipes (we have lots of the Lysol wipes) and Avery premium heavyweight sheet protectors for portfolios.
The sheet protectors are least expensive at Cosco. Thank you so much for supporting our class.
This week, Friday Mass will be at 8:30 am. No spelling test this week. Next week students will take home their new word list. Friday after lunch will be a Read-In. Students may bring a small pillow.
Homework for the week: Read and complete math side B.
Have a wonderful week!

Congratulations 2nd grade on receiving your First Reconciliation! Thank you parents for sharing this special Sacrament with your child.
This week, first and second graders will start the Read to Feed 100 Book Challenge. All students are encouraged to read and take AR tests from Ash Wednesday to Good Friday for this challenge. There are 2 ways for family members to participate. You may sponsor your child by pledging a money amount for each book or you may sponsor the whole class by pledging a set amount of money. For example - I told students that I would give $25 if the whole class worked together and read 100 books. This is our Lenten Service project and all money will go to Heifer International. More information will come home later.
Today, we started a sample president report on Abraham Lincoln. We are reading about him and gathering facts. On Wednesday, students will begin finding facts on a president of their choice.
The 1/2 class is doing morning prayer on Wednesday. Students are learning about different types of prayer: Thanksgiving, Intercession, Petition, and Adoration/Praise. The greatest prayer is the Mass and includes all of these.  Please join us for Ash Wednesday Mass at 12:00.
This week, our class will also be doing STAR Testing for math and reading.
The spelling test will include review words and sentences.
Homework - Reading and Math (Students should practice math facts on days they don't have a homework page.)

Wednesday, February 19, 2020

Happy Wednesday! This will be a short, busy week. Today we learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Students chose the president they would like to learn more about. Each student will write facts and complete a report. Most of this will be done in class and will take a few weeks.
Many students have written and shared their Tangram Adventure story. We are starting final copies tomorrow for portfolios. Parents - final copy work and tests are put in portfolios. You will take home the portfolios at the end of the year.
Students did an awesome job on the Valentine Box STEM challenge! No homework for them this week as long as they finish math in class. Congratulations first and second grade!
*This Friday, please meet in the classroom at 9:00 am if your child is in 2nd grade. We will walk over to church together and stay until each child has received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Students are encouraged to pray and read the Bible while waiting for others. Students - please remember to bring your Children's Bible. After lunch, please join us for Mass at 12:00. The first & second grade class will lead Mass.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Claire, Landry, Landon, and Cecilia!
We will celebrate February Birthdays next Friday the 28th at 2:15.
Have a wonderful week!
