Happy Monday! Students are getting excited for Spring Break. It sounds like there are some great vacation plans. This week we continue our sound unit in science. Please help your child find small items around the house for their next STEM project! They will have an opportunity to create their own sound instrument this Thursday. I can't wait to see what they come up with!
Thursday, at 2:15, please join us for Stations of the Cross. The 5/6 grade class will lead stations with some help from 3/4.
Your child may share a prayer card with you this week. As a class, we are going into church to pray the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy each Monday for Lent. This is also a fabulous family prayer.
No spelling homework this week.
Homework: Read and finish math
Friday is noon dismissal.

Congratulations to all the 1st and 2nd graders who earned 100% on their spelling test! You have no spelling homework this week. Your 5 spelling words for the test on Friday will come from the phonics/spelling packet. First grade skill is long a spelled ai or ay. Second grade skill is the sound you hear in boy spelled oi or oy. We are starting a new unit on sound in science and we begin the First Communion lessons this week.
Don't forget this Friday is Shamrock Fest! Students may purchase a punch card for the activities. We will also open the classroom store this Friday.
Homework for the week: Rainbow words, finish math, and read.

Happy March! This week students are learning about Lent during religion. Our focus for the 40 days before Easter will be Acts of Kindness. We will show love for Jesus by doing nice things for others. The Ash Wednesday school Mass will be at 12:05. We also have morning prayer the same day 3-6. You are welcome to join us for both.
Homework for the week - Rainbow words due Thursday (students should also practice spelling the words at home), read each night, and finish math.

Students did an amazing job working in teams to make windmills. We tested 4 of them last week. So far, one group made a windmill that was able to lift 100 washers. That equals 500 grams! We will test the other 3 this Thursday. What an exciting STEM/science project!
This week 1st and 2nd graders will lead morning prayer on Wednesday and Mass on Friday.
Parents - please practice with your child if he or she has a reading part.

Monday - Rainbow words due Thursday
Tuesday through Thursday - Finish math, read, and practice spelling words
Progress Reports go home Wednesday - Please sign and return the envelope. You may keep the Progress Report. Thank you.

I hope everyone enjoyed their nice long weekend. We have a short week full of excitement.
Today students worked in teams to make blades for their windmills. We are looking forward to testing them tomorrow afternoon. First Reconciliation for second grade students is this Friday. Please meet in the classroom at 9:10 if you will be present for this special Sacrament.
Homework for the week: Finish math, Read, and **Study science vocabulary for a test on Friday.

I am looking forward to seeing the Valentine STEM challenge this Thursday! Family help for the Valentine box is encouraged. Be creative and have fun!
Tomorrow 1st and 2nd graders will have the opportunity to buy candy grams in the morning. Please send money and a list of the names to write on the candy grams. Students need to have the money with them to purchase candy grams. Thank you parents for your help.
Wednesday is the 100th day of school. Second grade math students may bring to school 100 of an object in a ziplock bag. Examples - could be 100 pennies, blocks, craft sticks, or something you have at home. Must fit in any size ziplock bag.
Homework for the week - Read each night out loud to a family member and finish math.
This week the spelling test will be 5 review words and 2 sentences.

Congratulations to Olivia, Georgia, Landry, Allie, Makaela, Landon, and Frank for yellow the whole month of January! Awesome job!
Quick Reminders:
*Book orders are due tomorrow, 2-7-19. You may order online until Friday, February 8th.
*STEM Valentine challenge is due next Thursday. Please bring your Valentine holder to school on February 14th. Remember - It must hold all of your Valentine cards and treats. Constraints - It must sit on your desk and can be up to 1 foot wide by 1 foot long. Family members may help. Have fun with your design.
*Reconciliation for 2nd grade and public school students will be on February 22nd. Parents please meet in the classroom at 9:10.
**Students have special Religion homework for the whole week called Ripples of Love.  Each day students need to do something kind for someone else and write it on their paper. I will collect the Ripples of Love on February 13th. Thank you for helping your child remember to write about their kind act each day.
No spelling test this week since we only have 3 days of school.
This week spelling assessment will come from student writing.
